Fabrication & Design
Alberta Strainers specializes in custom-engineered filtration solutions, offering:
- Y Strainers – Designed to remove various debris and unwanted particles from pipelines, protecting pumps and valves.
- Basket Strainers – High-capacity filtration for industrial fluid systems.
- Temporary Strainers – Cone type and Basket type for system start-up.
Installation:
In both styles adequate room must be allowed for screen removal. Ideally, pressure gauges should be installed upstream and downstream of a strainer to indicate pressure drop caused by a partially plugged screen.
"Y" strainers should be installed in a horizontal line or a vertical line with the flow going down.
Basket strainers should be installed in a horizontal line.
Common Strainer Maintenance:
Depending on process fluids flowing in the pipelines, determine how long it takes for the screen to become approximately 1/3 plugged and remove and clean at the same time interval, or when the pressure gauges, if installed, indicate a pressure drop across the strainer.
If a "Y" strainer has been provided with a blow-down valve on the drain connection then it may be opened to blow down the sediment at a regular frequency/interval.
Spare Parts:
A spare screen and cover gasket are the only parts required to refurbish a strainer. Retaining a spare screen will decrease shutdown time while a clogged screen is being cleaned.
